After previously announcing the festival’s opening night premiere, John Candy: I Like Me, the Toronto International Film Festival has announced the first five Special Presentation titles set to have their world premiere at the festival’s 50th edition, including Sung-hyun Byun’s Good News.

Good News marks Byun’s second film with Netflix following 2023’s Kill Boksoon. Earlier this year, the streamer released a brief synopsis about the film: “Set in 1970, the film depicts a suspicious operation carried out by a group determined to land a hijacked airplane by any means necessary.”

In addition to Good News, TIFF announced the premieres of Aljeandro Amenábar’s The Captive, Steven Soderbergh’s The Christophers, Nia Da Costa’s Hedda, and Chandler Levack’s Mile End Kicks.

The 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, runs September 4–14, 2025.
