After a successful festival circuit run, Usman Riaz’s pioneering animated film, The Glassworker, will be hitting cinemas across North America starting August 15.

The hand-drawn animated tale was Pakistan’s Official Selection for Best International Feature at the 97th Academy Awards and will be released in US and Canadian theatres through Watermelon Pictures.

The official synopsis reads:

“In a town divided by duty and class, Vincent, a glassmaker’s son, and Alliz, a violinist who is the colonel’s daughter, fall in love. As their bond grows, rising tensions between their families threaten to pull them apart. Brought to life through stunning hand-drawn animation, The Glassworker is a poetic tale of first love, family, and the price of staying true to your art.”

The Asian Cut reviewed The Glassworker after its premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, pointing to “its personal touch, and the sheer breadth of the animated beauty” as the films greatest strengths.

The Glassworker will be screened in the following cities:

New York City – August 15th (Exclusively at The Angelika)

Toronto – August 15th

Los Angeles – August 22nd

San Francisco – August 29th

All cities – September 5th
